Tips for preventing December pounds

Fancy the holidays….

Are you also so looking forward to the holidays? And are you busy thinking about what you will do these days and especially….. what you will eat? For most of us, December is all about cozy food, food and more food. St. Nicholas is on his way back to Spain again and now we are all busy buying presents, scoring a nice Christmas outfit and thinking about Christmas menus. In short, it is almost inevitable that you will gain some weight in this ‘(free) eating month’. However, you can prepare yourself in advance, perhaps you should already think about what you will NOT eat this month, so that in the end it will not be so bad and you start 2020 radiant. In this article you will find tips for avoiding the December pounds!

1. Make a plan

It is now early December, so you can still make a plan for yourself now as to how you will handle the rest of December. Write down for yourself what you want to have accomplished by the end of the month and why you want it. Do you want to stay at your current weight? Don’t want to gain more than 1-2 pounds, or even lose weight in this month? Want to fit into that one tight dress? Write this down for yourself and read it back every day, so you keep reminding yourself of your goal and motivation.

2. Don’t forbid yourself anything, eat Mindfull!

Once you start forbidding yourself from everything you want it all the more. Just don’t think of a pink elephant? What are you doing now? Right, you think about it. If you start forbidding yourself things then your craving for them becomes all the greater. If you forbid yourself to eat speculoos, chances are you will suddenly have a binge and before you know it, the whole doll is gone. So be kind to yourself and allow yourself a treat once in a while. Enjoy a small portion with all your senses and then stop eating. Eat Mindfull and in moderation.

3. Choose healthy options

Of course, a Christmas dinner, Christmas drinks or New Year’s Eve does not have to be unhealthy. You can choose what to make and what to eat one evening. Ultimately, you are in control of what you make, buy and eat. So choose healthy products and cook healthy (even during Christmas).

4. Keep moving!

Often we use as an excuse that the December months are so busy and we don’t have time to exercise. Of course, this is not so because you can always find time to take a nice brisk walk. Make it a fun outing right away and go with your friends or family to the woods, beach or moor to get a breath of fresh air.

5. Drink plenty of water

We all know that drinking water is incredibly important. When you drink a few glasses of water before eating, it causes you to eat less. So be sure to drink a few glasses of water prior to Christmas drinks or Christmas dinner.
Beware of alcoholic drinks, which are real fat makers, full of calories. Therefore, alternate the occasional glass of alcohol with a glass of water to save some calories anyway!
