Treatment process intestinal complaints

Step 1: Analysis

We start treatment with a comprehensive analysis. To find out where your symptoms are coming from, it is necessary for us to know a lot about you. Collect this information by:

  • a comprehensive online questionnaire
  • a food diary
  • a comprehensive intake interview
  • Additional laboratory tests (blood and stool)

Through the analysis of all available information, we gain insight into the factors that may play a role in causing your symptoms. In irritable bowel syndrome, factors such as improper diet, parasites, inflammation and stress can be the cause.

Step 2: Personalized treatment plan

Based on the results of the analysis phase, we will create a personalized treatment plan for you. It is based on the four pillars: nutrition, supplementation, exercise and mindset.

The treatment plan focuses on addressing the factors that cause the disease. With proper nutrition and supplementation, inflammation is calmed and deficiencies are replenished.

As a result, the damaged intestine recovers the pathology becomes stable and symptoms quickly diminish.

Step 3: Guidance

The results of your treatment depend in part on your motivation and discipline. To guide you through this, our specialists pay close attention to coaching and knowledge transfer. We also provide comprehensive exercise advice specific to your conditioning situation.

To properly monitor progress, we schedule regular follow-up consultations. We will discuss the interim results with you and, if necessary, have additional laboratory tests done. If necessary, we adjust the treatment plan in the interim.

Irritable bowel syndrome: Background and insights

In orthomolecular medicine, we look at the causes that result in a spastic gut. This is often individually different, although there are also important similarities.

Healthy intestines have a very substantial number of microorganisms in them that have a health-promoting effect. In an adult human, the gut flora consists of 1014 bacteria (that’s 100 trillion – ten times the number of human cells in a body) with a total weight of one to one and a half kilograms. Together, this is also called the microbiome.

Various negative influences can cause this microbiome to be disrupted and the “good” bacteria to be displaced by pathogenic bacteria. These influences can occur as early as birth. For example, a cesarean section can result in a baby not getting the good bacteria from the mother.

Frequent courses of antibiotics also damage our microbiome, and poor nutrition and stress also have a negative impact. Fungi or parasitic infections can also be extra stressful to the intestines. So lots of causes.

In patients with irritable bowel syndrome, their microbiome is almost always found to be abnormal, and usually this has also led to chronic (low-grade) inflammation of their intestines.

Types of intestinal diseases

There are different types of intestinal diseases and symptoms. The most common intestinal disorders are listed below.
