Treatment plan for gut problems
Step 1: Analysis
We start the treatment with an extensive analysis. In order to find out where your complaints come from, we need to know a lot about you. We collect this information by:
- an extensive online questionnaire
- a food diary
- an extensive intake consult
- additional laboratory tests (blood and stool)
By analyzing all available information, we gain insight into the factors that can play a role in causing your complaints. Irritable bowel syndrome can be caused by factors such as improper nutrition, parasites, inflammation and stress.
Step 2: Personal treatment plan
We make a personal treatment plan for you based on the results of the analysis phase. This is based on the four pillars: nutrition, supplementation, exercise and mindset.
The treatment plan focuses on addressing the factors causing the disease. With the right nutrition and supplementation, the inflammations are calmed and deficiencies are replenished.
As a result, the damaged intestine recovers, the disease becomes stable and complaints are quickly reduced.
Step 3: Guidance
The results of your treatment partly depend on your motivation and discipline. To guide you in this, our specialists pay a lot of attention to coaching and knowledge transfer. We also provide extensive exercise advice, which is specifically tailored to your personal situation.
We regularly schedule follow-up consultations to properly monitor progress. We discuss the interim results with you and, if necessary, have additional laboratory tests performed. If necessary, we adjust the treatment plan in the meantime.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Background and Insights
In orthomolecular medicine we look at the causes that result in a spastic bowel. This varies from person to person, although there are also important similarities.
A healthy gut has a very large number of micro-organisms in the intestines that have a health-promoting effect. In an adult human, the intestinal flora consists of 1014 bacteria (that is 100 trillion - ten times the number of human cells in a body) with a total weight of one to one and a half kilograms. Together this is also referred to as the microbiome.
Various negative influences can cause this microbiome to be disrupted and that the "good" bacteria are displaced by pathogenic bacteria. These influences can occur from birth. For example, a C-section can prevent a baby from getting the good bacteria from the mother.
Also, frequent treatments of antibiotics damage our microbiome and bad nutrition and stress also have a negative impact. Fungi or parasitic infections can also be extra stressful for the intestines. As you can see there are many different things that can cause problems in your gut.
In patients with irritable bowel syndrome, their microbiome almost always turns out to be abnormal and this usually also leads to chronic (low-grade) inflammation of their intestines.
