Supermarket survival! Buying healthy food at the supermarket. Is that possible?

Most people buy their food (or usually stuffing) at the supermarket. Kilo bargains, offers, etc. are set up in such a way that they excite you to buy by temptation. That’s what marketers are good at: showing you the way in the supermarket past all the tempting (usually prepackaged) products that often aren’t really healthy for you! Therefore, it can really be or become a survival trip in the supermarket.

Many people go to the local super alone, often daily, to get everything at once. Research also showed that 70% of everything we eat comes from the supermarket. It may be a little less good, but it saves time and often money. How can you make sure you still keep choosing healthy foods amid all the goodies you can get at the supermarket?

Not stuffing but real food that makes you healthy instead of sick!

You get the best food, of course, from the specialists. A logical choice would then be vegetables from the market, meat from the butcher, and so on. But even then you are often duped. It is not a luxury today to choose organic produce, preferably from the health food store or stores that sell exclusively organic, because many fruits and vegetables are often frequently sprayed with all kinds of pesticides such as pesticides and fungicides (fungicides). All of these substances are harmful to your health and can cause chronic illnesses and increase your risk of cancer. Fruit and vegetables should therefore be eaten unsprayed if your health is dear to you. If you don’t, then you will ingest more and more toxins as you eat more fruits and vegetables. Bizarre that you have to think about that, but unfortunately this is a fact.

For example, I myself have a large vegetable garden where I have built my own ecosystem and grow everything myself eco- and organically. You taste the difference and you notice it with your health! In addition, in this way you also save the environment in several ways because there is no transport needed or (plastic) packaging. If you don’t want to or can’t grow it yourself for whatever reason, buy as much as possible locally from farmers, for example. That also saves tax due to unnecessary transportation! Did you know that many vegetables are imported from distant countries (often heavily sprayed because the rules there allow it)? That is then cheaper than local honest produce without poison in it! I know better than anyone what the role of nutrition is for your health. I once weighed 135 pounds and had incipient cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Now I am in perfect health. Nutrition can make you sick or make you healthy! It’s what you choose.

In addition, products often known as healthy such as dairy and bread can also cause major problems and give you intestinal problems. Those gut problems or even diseased gut, often identified by lots of flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, can in turn be the cause of many other chronic disease conditions such as autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and many other skin problems like eczema. Earlier I wrote an article on this, Most chronic complaints originate from your gut.”

Resisting the temptations on the way to the checkout

The supermarket is a star at manipulation. Be well prepared and know what you can or cannot buy in terms of healthy products at the supermarket. It also depends on the supermarket chains what the offer is, for example, in organic products. Some have more offerings than others. I myself do some of my shopping at the supermarket but also at the organic butcher and health food store. Many people choose convenience. But that convenience can cause you to get/stay sick instead of getting and staying healthy!

The big risk is in the fact that you often buy a lot due to temptation. Everything you just don’t need, but still finds its way into your shopping cart. The most secure are the fruit and vegetable section and the meats section, noting that only organic is desirable if your health is dear to you. Along the way, you pass by the chips and soda section (which are usually bigger than the fruit and vegetable section!) and the candy and sugar products lurk at you. Sometimes I see carts loaded with sickening products that barely fit vegetables. So it helps well to make a list at home and stick to it. Discuss this with your children, too, and teach them the value of good nutrition for the sake of their own health.

What food suits me and makes me healthy instead of sick?

When you want to start “eating healthy,” the advice often flies around your ears. While some paint bread as the big culprit behind your weight gain, others swear by the fiber and vitamins it brings. One diet says you should avoid carbohydrates at all costs, while another diet focuses on getting as much protein as possible. Making a good, healthy choice seems so incredibly difficult. But it’s basically not, as long as you know what to eat. And what is good for one person may be disastrous for another. A nutritional screening (blood test) can help with this to see what may or may not suit you.

A personal plan

Eating healthy just doesn’t have to be complicated at all. The most important thing is to eat a variety of foods where fruits and vegetables should be the largest part of your diet. But also consider nuts and seeds, the good fats and sufficient protein from sources such as poultry (chicken), fish and eggs. If you want to know what is best for your body and what deficiencies you have, you can also get help with this. Frank Jonkers of BodySwitch Heemskerk helps you based on your personal situation and complaints, to achieve your goals.

Prepared shopping

One strategy for resisting the supermarket is primarily awareness and preparation. If you know what the tricks are, you are less likely to fall for them. One tip is to do as much shopping as possible at once and never set foot in the supermarket when you are hungry. Also, always make a list in advance of what you need. This way you minimize the chances of bringing unhealthy things into your home. And what’s not in the house doesn’t end up in your stomach. Also, be a little alert to the product texts. Many products pretend to be healthy with fruits and vegetables on the package, but when you look at the ingredients, you see that there are still fewer nutrients in them than it seemed. If a label already contains a long list of ingredients with E numbers and the like and terms such as sugar, fructose (syrup), hydrogenated fat and palm oil, it’s better to leave it alone.

Optimal health: Nutrition can build up or break down

You can keep your body healthy with healthy food and slowly demolish your body with bad food. That’s only half the puzzle. In fact, your lifestyle, such as how much you sleep per night and how much you exercise, affects your health just as much.
